Update with video! [Nov. 12th, 2007|04:15 pm]

While I was on vacation, Powell and Hyde's foster mom shared this video. I just saw it today and wanted to share.

Here's what she had to say about their living with her:

Had the Christmas turkeys out again this morning. Their cage needed a scrub, so I shooed them out and they ran around like ducks while I cursed and picked at the bottom grille. They ended up in the hall/bathroom, and when I was done I went in there and laid down while they climbed all over me, until Powell had the bright idea of putting my ear in his beak. HAHAHA I don't think so.

Hyde lets me grab her beak and give her head scritches, although she stays perfectly still and I can't tell how close she is to turning around and removing the skin from my fingers. And I can't do it with Powell very close, or he tries to protect her. I can touch his beak, but any more than that and he tries to bite me. I'm still trying to decide whether the trauma of being removed from their cages (I have to chase them around with a towel) is outweighing the benefits of interacting with me in the hall/bathroom. Am I making them more afraid, or less?

They're totally converted to pellets now. I'm giving them veggies, but they're not interested; I think I'm going to try pellets and veggies only for another week, and then try taking the pellets out in the mornings from the time I wake up until the time I leave for work, and offering only vegetables. They will probably be hungry enough to try them.

(Their wings are clipped, believe it or not. They can get enough lift to fly over me while I'm lying down, and land on a bed that is about 14-15 inches off the floor.)
