Last night I got this email from Jasper's adopter:
A quick note to update you on Jasper. He's starting to talk! Very exciting, his vocabulary so far is Step Up, Eagle, and he imitates us laughing. He has been mumbling so we just have to wait and see what flies out of that cute beak next.

Well, he was a guest on a talkshow, does that count as movie star status? :)

Thought y'all might like to see a picture of this cutie patootie.

And an update from our flock angel: Jasper may be the cutest adult conure I've ever had. He does this little melancholic bashful big-eyed look thing where he tilts his head and looks at you, fluffs up his feathers, and does this thing with his huge feet where he crosses the toes in front in a pigeon-toed sort of way.
So cute. So horribly terribly cute. He just let me feed him sunflower seeds by hand and scratch his head in his tank. Please get him out of my house ASAP so I don't get tempted to adopt another one! |

This email came through last night:
Well, congrats everybody. We just hit a new record of three SF cherryheads being rescued in a single week.
Yeah, you heard that right. I just got called from SFACC today about *another* injured cherryhead, this one with neurological symptoms like the usual head-tilt (aka the Baylisascaris worms). This makes a total of four in the last two weeks that have needed emergency care. It's raining conures!
Actually, I'm quite concerned because this is the second one this week with the neurological problem, and it is really early for this to be starting. We usually get them in June.
At any rate, he's super feisty, and we've named him "Jasper". He will be taken to [the vet] tomorrow for a follow-up, but I was able to give him a Baytril injection and his first dose of deworming meds (under Dr. F's direct guidance, and thanks to the stash of meds she's given me for such purposes). He's here in my office, looking positively adorable as he pretends to sleep while crunching on seeds.
So. Anybody out there want to foster a cherryhead? *hopeful look* I've currently got seven members of the flock in my house (including Ferdinand), and if I bring home Parker anytime soon, that'll be eight. Way too many conures. . . and I do need to actually get work done for my business occasionally!
If you have ever wanted to have any of these darling green chickens in your life, even if only for a short while, now is a great time. They totally changed my life in unimaginably amazing ways; maybe they could do the same for you!
I'm leaving in her plea for foster homes - while it originally went out to people who have already been through Mickaboo's approval process, the need is great and if you're local and have any interest in fostering, please contact me so we can get you through the approval process asap! :)
